2 Huge Upcoming Shows NOT to be missed!!!

Hi Folks,

Sorry for the break in communications but for those of you that know me and my astounding computer skills we'll just say....
The Mac is Back!!!!

We at ROM certainly hope that wherever you may be reading this note from that you and yours are safe with regard to the Natural Disaster's happening all around our Global Community!!

Our next huge Event to be held this Coming Saturday June 11, 2011 at 2:30 pm at Roslindale Congregational Church, (the home of ROM). This will be a Fundraiser for the Fistula Foundation: www.fistulafoundation.org. It is being put on by our dear friend and artist M.F. Daisy. It is also her debut event for her own Dignity Productions: www.dignityproductions.com. I will be assisting MF with some hosting! This Event should be a wonderful educational and a most entertaining show for all in the family!!!! There is NO cost to join us at this Venue, although any and all Donations to this Fundraiser will be greatly appreciated as 100% of all funds collected at this Fundraiser will be donated directly to the Fistula Foundation. I would also like to remind many of you who are working or can have friends or family join us for this incredible event filled with talent to keep in mind, many employer's will do matching Funds toward any Donations made by you!!!
The Fistula Foundation is a 501- C3 organization and we will have receipts on hand for any donations and anyone wishing one.

There will be free beverages, and desserts in addition to a Silent Auction and a Raffle. For those of you who may be unable to donate funds we are also looking for as many donations of your CD's, Book's, pieces of artwork etc that you would be willing to bring with you to donate to this cause.

As you will see in both websites I have offered within this text, one of the most heartfelt reasons this cause became so very important to MF Daisy and for her wonderful original song which is the Anthem of the Fistula Foundation called "You are NOT Alone". When you hear the words you will fall in love with the reason this song was composed. It also clearly attests to part of the Mission Statement of the Fistula Foundation, "from despair to dignity".

We would also be grateful for any one able, to add this venue to your websites and or announced at any Venues before then, it would be greatly appreciated!!

The list of entertainers that will be on hand are as follows, Angela Masciale, Camille Breeze, John Boehmer, Ken Porter, Oen Kennedy, Steve Kriger, Tara Greenblatt and of course, M.F. Daisy.

There will also be a specialty drum group with Ken, Rob, Tara and Oen that will fill the room!!! This is exactly what we are totally hoping to do!!!

A word from MF,

Please come, everyone come, fill our space, help us celebrate this one and only first time with such amazing musicians and wonderful happenings.  I will be ready to greet all at the ROM space (25 Cummins Highway) on Saturday afternoon at 2:30.

AUM is, the universal call for healing!!!

xxoo MF Daisy

Words from MF Daisy:

"Dear friends,
My commitment to helping eradicate obstetric fistula began with writing the song
You Are Not Alone.”*
Listen to You Are Not Alone at  http://www.myspace.com/mfdaisy
About Fistula
Though obstetric fistula is virtually non-existent in countries where cesarean sections are widely available, approximately 2,000,000 women are currently suffering  from this devastating condition, mostly in Africa and Asia. Most of them are adolescents, some as young as 11. Without corrective surgery, a simple procedure, these women are condemned to a life of shameful isolation. Thanks to the efforts of organizations like The Fistula Foundation* thousands of women have been able to get the necessary surgery and been restored to a life of dignity.
About Dignity Productions
This year, I founded Dignity Productions, an organization devoted to raising awareness and funds for The Fistula Foundation.   We will be hosting a number of fund-raising events including three, You Are Not Alone Concerts.  The first of these, will take place on Saturday, June 11,th, at 2:30pm at the Roslindale Congregational Church. The second will take place in early fall at the Theodore Parker Unitarian/Universalist Church in West Roxbury and the third will follow in November in  Montreal.
We are in desperate need of volunteers of all kinds. Are you good at organizing? We need you, Got experience at putting together raffles and/or silent auctions? We need you. Have you run a pot-luck or food concession? We need you. Are you a wordsmith? WE need you.  Here is a partial list of all the people we need.
Organizers
Production Assistants

Graphic Artists
Installation Artists
Photographers
Videographers
Sound Engineers
Publicity volunteers
Ad Sales
Set Up/Break Down/Clean-up CREW
Tech CREW
People to fluent in Sign Language

Please join with us in letting these women who so need our assistance know,

 They Are Not Alone!"

My heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you for all you are and have added to our wonderful ROM Community of Fine Artists and Supporting friends which is: The great success we have been blessed with at, Roslindale Open Mike. It is, always has been and always will be you, our Foundation of  The ROMulin Community that will keep our Community always on the move, always learning to remain flexible to change as any changes we hear from you to continue to make sure we do continue the answer the wishes and any hopes you may have for the remainder of ROM 2011 as well as any hoped changes for our busy 2012 ROM year already in our sites and always being thought about. Special Addition - Japan Relief Fundraising Concert- March 27, 2011

My Dear friends,

We have all heard of the tragic events that are at this point still ongoing in Japan. During events like these we all feel so helpless and do NOT know what we can do to help the people of Japan get through the Traumatic Events brought on by these horrific natural disasters. Junko Ogawa, (a native of Japan), has thought of this wonderful pro-active way we can get ALL MONIES collected by this concert to go directly to the People of Japan, (In need), with a goal of addressing the specific medical needs for these victims. Much thought was put into which agency to use so, NO ADMINISTRATIVE COSTS, would get in the way of getting these funds directly to the people of Japan! I was honored to be asked by Junko and Satoru to help with this wonderful pro-active idea of using the Art's, (music/spoken word),  in my mind, the Universal Soldier of a winning way to assist our brothers and sisters in Japan.  I am going to jot exactkly how the flier was written by Junko. The Fundraiser will be held at the Roslindale Congregational Church, 25 Cummins Highway Roslindale, Ma 02131.On Sunday March 27, 2011. The show will be from 7-10 PM It is the church that is the home of ROM!!!!

We are hoping that you will be able to join us in person. If you are unable to join us and still want to make a contribution the this wonderful and needing cause:

Japan Tsumani/Earthquake so the monies will be directed to the correct locations. We do have receipts available for tax purposes an where it is going throught the church it is a 501-C3 non profit organization!!

The Flier:
Roslindale Congregational Church, Neal Braverman of Roslindale Open Mike, Satoru Nakagawa of his blues band "Tokyo Tramps", and Junko Ogawa are putting together this benefit concert for the recent Earthquakes and Tsunami victims in Japan. There will be about 30 local artists performing 1 song/piece. Everyone involved is volunteering their time for this cause!!! There will be NO admission fee but we will be asking for you and family and friends to join us for this wonderful evening! We are asking for donations of any size to go directly to the noted Fund! Donate as much as possible and if others are interested and cannot be with us please free to bring their checks as well!! WE are also hoping folks to donate some samll amounts of any type of food/snacks you may wish for yourself and if possible enough to share  with others. We will be supplying Snacks and beverages at NO COST!!! For info on parking please visit, www.roslindaleopenmike.org. On behalf of the planning team we so look forward to seeing you all and of course your donations for this very needy cause! We do want to thank, in advance, all the performers that will be performing that night and to all the performers that did offer!!! Just me again with a quick note. All this year and undertaking has been going on by Jon Waterman, Steve Rapson and Dawn Frost. They have put together a Holiday CD made up , primarily of songs written by many of our dear friends right here at ROM as well as our wonderrful Open Mike Community Family. The name of the CD is "Our Finest Gifts". ALL the procceds from this CD will benefit the SMALL CAN BE BIG ORGANIZATION! TAKEN DIRECTLY FROM THE INSERT OF THE CD IS A NOTE TO US!  "The goal of this project is to highlight the vibrant performing & songwriting community of the Greater Boston area". The philosophy was make this project, all inclusive. "It is the belief of the producers that the best arbitters of musical taste are the listening public & NOT radio Programmers, venue operators, lable executives or pitchmen/promoters working on behalf of a certain privileged artists" I have listen to this CD it is definitely a keeper!. The cause is wonderful and both it's producers and all the performers are wonderfrul. I thank you Jon, Steve and Dawn for taking on and coming through with this devine piece of art!! Sincerely Neal :))

Welcome to our new Roslindale Open Mike Community Blog

Hi Folks,

You have been asking so this is the very beginning of our new Kick-off ROM Blogspot
Since Mike has so much to do with keeping our Website on the move for 2 years now as well as sending each of you e notifications of our upcoming events. I will attempt to take the lead & chat about some past events and when I get used to it attempt to use this blog as a diary post each Feature! As many of you know, I am NO whiz when it comes to computers and this is the very first Blog I have ever had any part of. I do wish to begin this Blog by thanking all of you for all you have done to support Mike & myself with the building blocks it takes to make any worthwhile Foundation.

On 10-11-10 we had a wonderful Feature night with John Olivere with Nadia Swartz  doing a wonderful set having us laughing at the gags within the (comedian) in John Olivere many of us did not know was there but also both John's incredible talent as a storyteller and singer/songwriter! Along with John we had Nadia Swartz as a talent we have only seen one other time at ROM but I have asked Nadia to please come back to ROM and treat to her piano and guitar playing and yet another super  singer/songwriter! This was also a night where we said So Long..Until we meet again as it was Chris Wilhelm's Final ROM for now as he moved to Asheville, North Carolina the following morning. We did have some fun with him as we did have a musical "Until we meet again"cake enough for the many of us to eat and then some!! WE also did send Chris off with a ROM Baseball Cap!  We also did with Branson Bofat as Chris ,Branson & Junko Ogawa not only gave of themselves and played at a wonderful Fundraising event from 11:15 am to around 4PM all as volunteers so they did show their integrity and pride in both their own music but also trying to assist St. Andrews Church in JP kick off their  Urban Legacy drive as well as ROM has committed to mentor if wished, their Coffeehouse that has been having some issues with attendance!! Where Junko already does have a ROM hat, she does so  much writing of music,we got her some PINK Hello Kitty style pens to continue jotting her songs in Hello Kitty Pink!!

All the best to all our fabulous Community of artists!! On this night as well, at one point we had 42 folks that wished to play and I did have to come up with another 1st at ROM and we went to a 1 song night for the very first time. I believe we did end up with 29 players and it was an awesome night and I thank you all for you continual support and I know I speak for Mike when I say, we hope to see you all at our Next ROM on 10-25-10 for our Ryan & Ortolani Feature!! I will learn more how to get many more things on this blog but it is late yet I was determined to get it started tonight!!!

All my best and hoping to see you all soon! Always, Neal Braverman :))
